What does this 4th grade fractions unit cover?
It introduces decomposing fractions, adding and subtracting with like denominators, converting between mixed numbers and improper fractions, adding and subtracting mixed numbers, and multiplying a fraction by a whole number. By the end a child should solve 2 3/8 + 1 7/8 and 3 × 2/5.
How does RepeatWatch help with adding fractions?
Loop one worked example from A to B while your child copies it, then pause and try the next one alone. Slow regrouping steps to 0.75×, save each lesson part on keys 1–9, and use Stop after N loops to keep sessions short.
Frequently asked questions
What grade learns adding mixed numbers?
In the US, adding and subtracting fractions and mixed numbers with like denominators is usually taught in 4th grade (ages 9–10). Unlike denominators follow in 5th grade. Grade levels vary by country and school.
Why do we not add the denominators?
The denominator names the size of the pieces, like eighths. When you add 3/8 and 2/8 the pieces stay eighths, so only the count on top changes. The Math Antics and Khan Academy lessons show this with pictures.
