What addition and subtraction do children learn in grades 1–2?
In first grade (ages 6–7) children usually add and subtract within 20, learn doubles and ways to make 10, and see how addition and subtraction relate. In second grade (ages 7–8) they move to two-digit numbers, including regrouping, also called carrying and borrowing.
How do I use RepeatWatch for a tricky math step?
Open the lesson, drag A and B around the part that explains the step, such as borrowing a ten, and it replays on its own. Drop the speed to 0.75x so your child can follow each move, and save useful sections to keys 1–9.
Frequently asked questions
Should my child watch the songs or the lessons first?
Many families start with a song to warm up, such as a doubles or make 10 song, then watch a short lesson like Khan Academy or Homeschool Pop. Play the song on Repeat one while your child practises facts on paper.
Are these videos tied to a school curriculum?
Some channels label videos by grade, but we do not claim any video matches your school's curriculum. The playlist introduces common grade 1–2 skills; check with your child's teacher for the methods used in class.
How can I keep math screen time short?
Use the sleep timer to stop after 10 or 15 minutes, or set Stop after on a single song so it plays a few times and ends. Short, regular sessions usually work better than long ones.
