What is a credit score?

A credit score is a number lenders use to estimate how likely you are to repay borrowed money. It is calculated from your credit report: whether you pay on time, how much of your available credit you use, how long you have had credit, and recent applications. Scoring systems and credit bureaus differ by country.

How do I use RepeatWatch to learn how scores work?

A–B loop the St. Louis Fed section that breaks down what a FICO score is made of, and slow it to 0.75× to note each factor. Save the CFPB steps for getting and disputing a report on keys 1–9, then follow them with your own report open.

Frequently asked questions

How can I build credit if I have none?

Common starting points include a secured card, a small credit-builder loan, or being added to a trusted person's account, then paying on time every month and keeping balances low. The CFPB's "3 Ways to Build Your Credit Score" covers the basics. Options differ by country.

Does checking my own credit report hurt my score?

In the US, checking your own report or score is a soft inquiry and does not lower it. The CFPB video explains how to get free copies of your reports. Rules in other countries vary, so check your national credit bureau or regulator.

Is this financial advice?

No. These videos are educational and come from the channels that published them. They are not financial, tax or legal advice for your situation. Rules, accounts and products differ by country, so for personal decisions consider a qualified, regulated adviser or a free, government-backed money service.
