6th grade expressions and equations videos
Quick answer
In 6th grade (ages 11–12), students write expressions with variables, use exponents, find equivalent expressions and solve one-step equations. This playlist begins with Math Antics on what algebra is, then follows Math with Mr. J and Khan Academy 6th grade lessons. Put one example on repeat with an A–B loop to practice each step.

What should a 6th grader be able to do after this unit?
Write an expression from words, evaluate it for a given value, use whole-number exponents, spot equivalent expressions with the distributive property, and solve equations like x + 7 = 15 or 3x = 12. Grade levels vary by country and school.
How does RepeatWatch help with one-step equations?
Loop the moment the teacher does the same thing to both sides, and slow it to 0.75× to copy each line. Save the vocabulary, the example and the practice problems on keys 1–9, then use Stop after N loops to end the session on time.
Frequently asked questions
What is the difference between an expression and an equation?
An expression, such as 3x + 2, has no equals sign and can be simplified or evaluated. An equation, such as 3x + 2 = 11, says two things are equal and can be solved. The first half of this playlist covers expressions and the second half covers equations.
Are two-step equations included?
No. This 6th grade unit stays with one-step equations, including ones with fractions and decimals. Two-step equations and inequalities come in 7th grade, which has its own playlist on RepeatWatch.
