How does an A–B loop help with percent word problems?
Most percent videos solve several problems in a row. Loop just the one your student is stuck on, from reading the question to the final answer, and it repeats on its own while they follow how the percent becomes a decimal or fraction and gets multiplied.
When should a student slow a lesson to 0.75×?
Slow down for the setup of a proportion or a percent change, where a teacher quickly decides which number goes on top. At 0.75× there is time to copy the setup, then play the rest of the example at normal speed.
Frequently asked questions
What is the difference between a ratio and a rate?
A ratio compares two quantities, like 3 cats to 5 dogs. A rate compares quantities with different units, like 60 miles per hour, and a unit rate is the amount for one unit. Math Antics' "Ratios And Rates" explains both.
Which videos should a student watch first?
Start with Khan Academy's "Introduction to ratios" and Math Antics' "What Are Percentages?", then move to proportions, percent of a number, and finally percent change, discounts and sales tax.
