Pre-algebra videos for grades 6–7

Quick answer

This pre-algebra playlist for grades 6–7 (ages 11–13) covers variables, order of operations, like terms, the distributive property and solving equations, with lessons from Math Antics, Math with Mr. J, Khan Academy and FuseSchool. Use an A–B loop on one worked example, slow it to 0.75×, and repeat each step until it makes sense.

How does an A–B loop help with a worked algebra example?

Set A where the teacher writes the equation and B where the answer is checked. That one example then replays on its own, so a student can watch each move, such as subtracting from both sides, as many times as needed before trying a similar problem on paper.

Why slow math videos down to 0.75×?

Teachers in these videos often move quickly between steps. At 0.75× the voice still sounds natural, but there is more time to copy each line, notice which number moves where, and pause before the next step instead of rewinding over and over.

Frequently asked questions

What does pre-algebra cover?

Pre-algebra usually covers order of operations, variables and expressions, combining like terms, the distributive property, exponents, and solving one-step and two-step equations and inequalities. This playlist introduces each of those, roughly in that order.

Can I save several examples from one long lesson?

Yes. Save an A–B section for each example and it is stored on the number keys 1–9, so a student can jump straight to example two or three without scrubbing through the whole lesson again.

Are these videos from official channels?

Yes. Every video comes from the official Math Antics, Math with Mr. J, Khan Academy or FuseSchool channel. Videos play in YouTube’s player, so YouTube may show ads.
