Grades 1–2 (ages 6–8) · 17 videos · Checked and refreshed daily

Quick answer

Learning to ride takes balance, practice and a few wobbles. Caitie's "Let's Go For A Bike Ride!", Murray learning to ride on Sesame Street and Peppa Pig's "Evie's First Bike Ride" show that everyone starts slowly. Play all on repeat before a practice session. The helmet videos at the end are for grown-ups.

How can these videos help a child learn to ride a bike?

Watching another child wobble, stop and try again makes the real thing feel less scary. The songs name the steps: helmet on, look ahead, push off and pedal. Many children start on a balance bike or scooter, so the balance video with Caitie is a good warm-up.

How do I use RepeatWatch before a bike practice?

Drag A and B around the part where Caitie shows how to start and stop, and replay it while your child puts on a helmet. Slow it to 0.75× so each step is clear. Save the helmet-fit steps from Seattle Children's on a key to check the fit quickly.

Frequently asked questions

What age are these bike videos for?

They suit children in kindergarten through grade 2 (ages 5–8), and the songs also work for preschoolers on balance bikes or tricycles. Every child is ready at a different age, so follow your child's lead and keep practice short and fun.

Does my child need a helmet while learning?

Yes. The American Academy of Pediatrics recommends a helmet on every ride, even short practice runs on the driveway. The Seattle Children's video shows how to check that a helmet sits level, fits snugly and has its straps adjusted.
