What should children know about telling time in grades 1–2?
First graders (ages 6–7) usually learn to read analog and digital clocks to the hour and half hour. Second graders (ages 7–8) move on to five-minute intervals, quarter past and quarter to, and the difference between AM and PM.
How can RepeatWatch help a child learn to read a clock?
Loop the moment a video shows where the hour and minute hands point, slow it to 0.75x, and pause to let your child say the time first. Save the hour, half hour and five-minute sections to keys 1–9 to jump between them.
Frequently asked questions
Is skip counting by 5s needed for telling time?
It helps a lot. Each number on a clock face stands for five minutes, so children who can count by 5s read the minute hand much faster. Our skip counting songs playlist is a good warm-up.
Do these videos cover digital clocks too?
Yes. Several lessons, including Learn Bright and Scratch Garden, show analog and digital clocks side by side, and Numberock covers AM and PM. Practise with a real clock at home between videos.
