How does a restaurant make money?
A restaurant earns from food and drink sales, plus catering, delivery and gift cards. Profit is what is left after food cost, labour, rent and other overheads, so many owners start by learning to read a P&L statement, price each dish from its ingredient cost and control waste.
How do I use RepeatWatch to study these lessons?
Set an A–B loop on one explanation, such as how the menu matrix sorts dishes or how a P&L adds up, and replay it until it makes sense. Slow to 0.75× to take notes, speed up to 1.5× for a review, and save the chapters of a long lesson to keys 1–9.
Frequently asked questions
What licences does a restaurant need?
It depends on your country and city. Most places require food business registration, hygiene or health inspections, a business licence, and a separate licence to sell alcohol. The videos show UK and US examples, so check the exact rules with your local council or health authority before you sign a lease.
Is this legal, tax or financial advice?
No. These videos are educational. Rules, licences and taxes differ by country and change over time, so treat them as a starting point and confirm the details with your local authority, an accountant or a lawyer before you commit money.
Who made these videos?
They come from restaurant software companies teaching owners (Toast, Square, TouchBistro), the UK Food Standards Agency, a US Small Business Development Center, SCORE, and business journalism from WSJ, CNBC, Eater and Entrepreneur. We left out income-flex and course-selling videos.
