Salary negotiation, step by step
Quick answer
This course starts with what total pay really includes, then moves to scripts for the salary-expectations question, countering a job offer and asking for a raise. Harvard Business Review, Indeed and TED lead the list. Press Play all on repeat to work through it, and A–B loop a script until you can say it calmly.

What does negotiating a salary actually involve?
You research what the role usually pays where you live, decide the lowest offer you would accept, and ask for a specific number with reasons tied to your skills and results. Pay is more than salary: benefits, leave, training and flexible hours can often be negotiated too.
How do I use RepeatWatch to practise a negotiation?
A–B loop the part of a video where someone answers "What are your salary expectations?" and repeat it until the words feel natural. Slow a talk to 0.75× to take notes, and save the steps of your plan on keys 1–9 so you can review them before the meeting.
Frequently asked questions
Will negotiating make an employer withdraw the offer?
It is rare when you ask politely and give reasons, but it can happen, and norms differ by country, industry and employer. Many people find it safer to ask for a researched range and to show real enthusiasm for the job while they negotiate.
What if I have no experience or the pay is fixed?
Some jobs, such as many public-sector or union roles, have set pay scales. You may still be able to discuss your starting step, benefits, training or a review date. For a first job, focus on learning skills that raise your pay later.
Is this financial or legal advice?
No. These videos are educational and come from the channels that published them. They are not financial, tax or legal advice. Pay laws and customs differ by country, so for a personal decision consider a qualified, regulated adviser, a union representative or an employment lawyer.
