How do I teach a preschooler to say sorry?
Many children find it easier once they know the steps: notice how the other person feels, say sorry, then ask how they can help. Watching a character do it, then practicing with toys, gives them words to use. Every child learns this at their own pace.
Which video is for grown-ups?
The last video, Sesame Workshop's "Helping Kids Resolve Conflicts", is aimed at parents and carers. The rest are for children, and are best watched together so you can talk about what each character did.
Frequently asked questions
Should I make my child say sorry?
Many parents find a forced apology feels empty. It can help to wait until your child is calm, talk about how the other person feels and model apologies yourself. If you have worries about behavior, your child's doctor or teacher can help.
Can I replay just the apology scene?
Yes. Drag A and B around the moment a character says sorry and RepeatWatch loops just that part. Save it to a number key so you can come back to it after a real squabble.
How long should my preschooler watch?
Keep it short and watch together. Open one song and set Stop after to end it after two or three plays, or start the sleep timer before pressing Play all on repeat.
