How does a franchise make money?
A franchisee pays a franchisor for the right to run a business under its brand and system, usually an upfront fee plus ongoing royalties and marketing fees. The franchisee earns what is left after those fees, rent, staff, stock and loan payments. The franchisor earns fees and grows without owning every location.
How do I use RepeatWatch to learn from these lessons?
Play the steps-to-ownership videos first as a course. A–B loop the explanation of the agreement red flags or Item 19 and slow it to 0.75× while you take notes. Save chapters of the longer podcast episodes on keys 1–9, and speed owner stories to 1.25× when reviewing.
Frequently asked questions
What should I check before buying a franchise?
Read the disclosure document and agreement carefully, talk to current and former franchisees, and understand every fee. In the US this is the Franchise Disclosure Document. Other countries have different disclosure rules, so ask a franchise lawyer where you live to review the contract.
Are franchises a safe way to start a business?
A franchise gives you a tested system and training, but it is still a business with real risk, fees and rules you must follow. Results vary widely between brands and owners. Watch the FTC videos on business opportunity scams, and never rely on promised earnings.
Is this legal, tax or financial advice?
No. These videos are educational and not legal, tax or financial advice. Franchise laws, disclosure rules, loans and taxes differ by country, so have a franchise lawyer and an accountant review any agreement and funding plan before you sign or pay a fee.
