How does a small manufacturing business make money?

It buys raw materials, turns them into finished goods with its own equipment and staff, and sells them to shops, other businesses or customers directly. The margin is the price minus materials, labour, energy, equipment costs and waste, so careful costing and steady quality matter as much as the product.

How do I use RepeatWatch to learn from these lessons?

A–B loop the worked example in the inventory and cost of goods sold video until the sum makes sense, and slow it to 0.75× to copy it into your notes. Speed owner stories to 1.25× if you are reviewing them, and save chapters of longer talks on keys 1–9.

Frequently asked questions

Where do I start if I have a product idea?

Many makers start with small batches by hand or with one machine, sell to real customers, and keep careful records of what each unit costs. Watch the costing and inventory videos first, then the lean and demand planning lessons before buying bigger equipment.

Is there free help for small manufacturers?

Often, yes. In the US, Manufacturing Extension Partnership centres and the SBA help small manufacturers, and many countries have similar public programmes, development banks and trade agencies. Ask your local business support office what exists where you live.

Is this legal, tax or financial advice?

No. These videos are educational and not legal, tax or financial advice. Product safety standards, workplace safety, permits, loans and taxes differ by country and product, so check local regulations and speak to qualified advisers before you invest in a workshop or equipment.
